Relations with other habitat types

Linked to non-industrial agricultural practices in fields farther apart from human dwellings than V10Y (i.e., in the ager rather than in the hortus circle) whose irrigation and intensive fertilization are unpractical, they occupy more acidic, less nutrient-rich and at least seasonally drier soils than V10X and V10Y. Besides, their vegetative period ends sooner in the year.

Regional distribution

As a consequence of a) the abandonment of local cereal production by the insertion of the Iberoatlantic rural economies in large-scale markets, or b) the industrialization of agricultural practices with the irruption of fossil-fueled machinery, herbicides, artificial fertilization and precise sievering, these old weeds are in serious decline.
