Overview

A taxon described in 2002 by Rivas‑Martínez et al. (Itin. Geobot. 15: 706, 2002) as a high‑mountain species of the Ibero-Atlantic region, which has subsequently been identified in other Iberian mountain ranges. It resembles "Quercus robur", but with adult leaves strongly chartaceous, with the abaxial surface covered by a cuticle, with poorly developed auricles and well-differentiated petioles (always shorter than in "Quercus petraea").
