Overview

Widespread in short swards above the treeline on acid, relatively deep and never too dry soils where snow persists for a long time. Regional plants, with lobed leaves and whitish pappus, constitute a separate subspecies: S. pyrenaica subsp. cantabrica (Widder) Carlón & al. in Doc. Jard. Bot. Atlánt. 10: 103 (2014)
