Relations with other habitat types

This scrub is successionally associated (as fringes, pioneer protective stages or understorey in clear woodlands) to the thermophilous oak forests of the unit T197.

Regional distribution

Box tree is mostly restricted to the southern edge of the eastern third of the ecorregion, in the Ebro basin, but there are presumably native stands elsewhere, like in central Asturias.
