Description

Communities dominated by a few tussock-forming species. The main community in our ecoregion occurs in places periodically submersed by fast-flowing, mostly oligotrophic waters, with soils poor in fine sediments and rich in boulders, occurring mostly as fringes of riverine alder forests.

Protection

This habitat is not protected under the EU Habitat Directive.

Relations with other habitat types

The most widespread variant is referable to EUNIS Level VI unit Q53126 [“Brotero sedge beds"]. Q51x is interpretable as an analogue in more eutrophic places with finer sediments, associated to T111 instead of T121.
