Description

Retamoid scrub on permeable acid soils, cold-sensitive and never too far from coastal areas (especially in sandy soils associated with sandstones or gray dunes) or, only Cytisus striatus, in the southwestern submediterranean sector (sunnier and drier in summer).

Protection

This habitat is not protected under the EU Habitat Directive.

Relations with other habitat types

It is mostly coincident with EUNIS level V unit S3343 (“Northwestern Iberian Cytisus fields"), but its neat ecological and biogeographical in the ecoregion deserves recognition at level IV. It tends to appear at lower elevations than S33w (i.e. successionally associated to woodlands of the units T1Bx and T211 —or transitions thereof—rather than T19A).
